Christine Sinclair, the legendary Canadian striker, has announced that she will retire from football in November, at the end of the National Women's Soccer League season. She is the all-time top international goalscorer, having netted 190 times for her country in 331 appearances. The 41-year-old plays her club football for Portland Thorns, and has won three NWSL titles in her time with them.

Christine Sinclair, the all-time top goalscorer in international football, has announced she will retire in November.

Sinclair, the Canadian forward, has scored 190 goals - the top tally across both the women's and men's game - in 331 appearances for her country.

She retired from international duty in December last year, but plays for the Portland Thorns in the National Women’s Soccer League in the United States.

The 41-year-old has featured in six World Cups and won Olympic gold with Canada at the Tokyo Olympic Games in 2021.

Sinclair is one of only two players to have scored at five World Cups, with the other being Brazil’s Marta.

At club level, she has won three NWSL titles with the Thorns – the first and inaugural trophy in 2013, before two more in 2017 and 2022.

In a statement posted to her Instagram, Sinclair said: "Portland, thank you will never be enough.

"Soccer has been my passion since I was four years old and it has taken me on a journey I could never have imagined.

"As I finish out this last ride, I want to say what a privilege it has been to represent this unique, beautiful, and passionate city that I will always call home."

Her club posted on X: "You changed the game. You inspired generations. You did it all representing the Rose City.

"When you hang your boots at the end of the season, you’ll forever be The Greatest Of All Time."

Sinclair is also the record appearance maker for the Thorns, and is the only player to have been with them since the club's inception in 2013.
