Sheffield United promoted to Premier League
Sheffield United returned to the Premier League for the first time since 2007 after earning promotion without kicking a ball on Sunday, joining Championship leaders Norwich City in next season’s top-flight.
After the Blades' 2-0 win over Ipswich Town on Saturday, Leeds United had to beat Aston Villa to mathematically keep their hopes of a top-two finish alive.
However, they drew 1-1 in a controversial and feisty encounter at Elland Road that left both sides facing the lottery of the play-offs, with the match acting as potential dress rehearsal ahead of the crunch fixtures in May.
Norwich, who sealed promotion with a 2-1 win over Blackburn Rovers on Saturday night, can clinch the Championship title with a point at Villa on the final day of the season next Sunday. Sheffield United visit Stoke.
