The 30-year-old joined the Eagles last summer and penned a new six-month deal in January after being forced to reject a longer offer of 18 months.
Oster told the Croydon Advertiser: "It's a shame that at the time I couldn`t agree on the 18-month deal.
"There was a contract in place but we couldn't agree on the money for next season which is why I signed for another six months.
"I've been looking for clubs for some time - it's not like I've just stumbled across the situation.
"I'd be foolish not to look for a new club - I hope to have something in place as soon as possible."
Meanwhile, Palace manager Neil Warnock has offered new contracts to six players.
Shefki Kuqi, Alesanne N'Diaye and Rhoys Wiggins have all been offered new deals at Selhurst Park, while second-year scholars Michael Abnett, Nathaniel Pinney and Hakeem Adelakun have been offered professional contracts.
Nine first-team players have been released - Ryan Carolan, James Dayton, Carl Fletcher, Scott Flinders, Paul Ifil, John Oster, James Scowcroft, Jamie Smith and David Wilkinson - along with second-year scholars Graeme Edwards and Kieron Thorp.
