Porto head coach Sergio Conceicao accused Mikel Arteta of “insulting” his family following his side’s UEFA Champions League last-16 loss to Arsenal.
Tempers appeared to flare after the Gunners won on penalties to reach the quarter-finals.
There were confrontations between players on the pitch, and Conceicao also appeared to turn down a handshake with Arteta and instead exchanged words with him.
Asked about the incident after the game, Porto boss Conceicao said: “Arteta turned to the bench during the game and insulted my family in Spanish.
“I told him that the person he insulted is no longer among us.
“Let him worry about training his team, which has more than enough quality to play a lot better.
“The result was unjust. The team deserved to go through."
Arteta spoke to the media before Conceicao and did not have anything to say about the discussions with his opposite number.
"No comment. Thank you very much,” said the Arsenal boss.
Arteta and Conceicao were both booked during a tense match that saw Arsenal level the tie at 1-1 through Leandro Trossard's goal in the 41st minute.
The match then went to penalties and goalkeeper David Raya was the hero with two saves as Arsenal made the quarter-finals for the first time in 14 years.
"A magic night," said Arteta. "We expected a really tough opponent. It's very difficult to generate momentum and that's credit to them.

"It's a huge experience for us. We had to do it as well through penalties. Credit to David, who had some difficult moments to start, but showed incredible determination and stood up and got rewarded.
"It's another big step, especially as a club. For seven years we haven't been in this competition and for 14 years we haven't got this far. That tells you the difficulty of it. We want more and we're going to go for it that's for sure.
"It's the first time that I've done it in the Champions League. I try to learn every day, get advice and that's why you have good people around you, great coaches around you as well to help you and make you better."
The draw for the last eight takes place on Friday and will be shown live on TNT Sports.
