Manchester City manager Pep Guradiola has said that Raheem Sterling could have told the referee that the decision to award him a penalty during the 6-0 victory over Shakhtar Donetsk was incorrect.

With the score at 1-0 in the first-half Sterling burst into the box and appeared to trip over himself and fell down.
However referee Viktor Kassai awarded the penalty and Gabriel Jesus converted from the spot.
Speaking after the game Guardiola said he knew that it was not a penalty and perhaps Sterling could have said something to the referee.
When Guardiola was asked on his views on the penalty he said "It's not."
"VAR does not exist in UEFA [competitions] so that's the problem
"We realised it wasn't a penalty. {After being asked if Sterling could have told the referee] Raheem could have told the referee. We don't like to score in that situation."
He also expressed sympathy with the referee and the officials after arguing something similar happened to his side last season against Liverpool.

"You know VAR and what it is - the referee must be helped because they don't want to make mistakes.
"The game is so fast these days. It takes 10 seconds for somebody to say something to the referee.
"[Would you tell a player to pass the ball to the keeper?] A coach would never say that. But I'm young, I will learn."
