Fernandez to join Sporting

Sporting Lisbon have agreed a deal to buy Chile international Matias Fernandez from Villarreal for 3.64 million euros.

The 23-year-old attacking midfielder signed a four-year contract with Sporting, the Portuguese club added.

Fernandez arrived at Villarreal from Chilean club Colo Colo in December 2006.

He scored seven goals in two seasons but made 17 of his 21 Liga appearances this season from the bench and was deemed surplus to requirements by new boss Ernesto Valverde.
