Bayern Munich 3-1 St Pauli result – Luis Diaz and Nicolas Jackson score injury-time goals to rescue win for Harry Kane's side

Bayern Munich rescued a 3-1 victory against strugglers St Pauli thanks to injury-time goals from Luis Diaz and substitute Nicolas Jackson.

Coming into the game Vincent Kompany’s side were favourites to comfortably beat a St Pauli side, who had suffered defeat in their last eight Bundesliga fixtures.

However, the visitors stunned the Allianz Arena after just six minutes when Andreas Hountondji found his way in on goal and beat goalkeeper Manuel Neuer at his near post.

Bayern dominated possession but struggled to find an equaliser as teenager Lennart Karl and Tom Bischof were both denied by the post.

The leveller came a minute before the break after Diaz made a surging run into the box before pulling back for Raphael Guerreiro to net.

Despite Kompany making several second-half changes, a second goal eluded his side, with Harry Kane also being denied by the woodwork.

However, in the third minute of injury-time, Diaz headed home Joshua Kimmich’s floated ball to take the points.

The victory was confirmed moments later when Serge Gnabry capitalised on a defensive error and Jackson ran through for a third.

Harry Kane failed to increase his scoring record on a largely frustrating day against St Pauli. The marksman thought he had scored a late winner nine minutes from time only to be denied by the post.

After missing their clash against Arsenal due to suspension, Diaz returned to the starting line-up and repaid boss Kompany.

Diaz was excellent throughout the game and eventually his patience paid off with an important second goal.

Vincent Kompany’s side now sit eight points clear at the Bundesliga summit. Following second-placed RB Leipzig’s draw last night, Bayern’s home win extended their advantage to a sizeable one.

Bayern have won 11 of their opening 12 matches.

In the 93rd minute Bayern look to have found the winner. A floated ball by Kimmich finds the head of Diaz from six yards out.

Fujita exploits Bayern down the middle and then feeds through Oppie. However, after racing onto the ball inside the box he fires over.

The Bayern man arrived late to a 60-40 challenge and catches his opponent.

Bayern and Harry Kane thought they had scored the winner. The ball drops inside the box for the striker from a corner. However, his low effort goes across goal and comes back off the post

Bayern are becoming increasingly frustrated. That is not helped by a moment of miss-communication by Olise and Stanisic which results in the ball going wayward.

It looked a formality as Kane found himself through on goal. However, Pyrka was on hand to make a block at the key moment.

Olise opens up his opponents with a run down the wing. His ball across goal finds Bischof coming in at the back post. However, the wing-back rushes his shot and fires wide.

Diaz looked to have got goal-side of his marker inside the box before going down under pressure. The referee is unmoved under the claim and VAR are not required to check.
