Goals from Raffael and Florian Neuhaus in the 69th and 77th minutes put the Foals in the driving seat before an own goal by France world champion Benjamin Pavard six minutes from the end completed a miserable afternoon for the visitors and earned Gladbach their 10th straight home win.
The hosts had several good chances before substitute Raffael breathed new life into their attack and opened the scoring.
The win lifted them to second place, seven points behind leaders Borussia Dortmund, who beat Schalke 04 2-1 in the Ruhr valley derby on Saturday.
