"The situation was without doubt life-threatening," team doctor Alexander Mauckner told the club's website.
The 29-year-old former Middlesbrough striker was taken to hospital last Friday after a calf muscle injury triggered a thrombosis, which in turn led to an embolism.
Nemeth remains under supervision of club doctors, and is taking on medication, though is set to miss at least the next three months of the season.
"I was shocked at the diagnosis. But on the other hand I'm happy that the embolism was recognised early, and my life was possibly saved as a consequence," Nemeth said.
