Ballon d'Or complete standings: Rodri margin over Vinicius Junior revealed, Jude Bellingham votes also shown

Ballon d'Or winner Rodri claimed football's biggest individual prize by a margin of just 41 votes over second-placed Vinicius Junior, according to the complete list of votes cast at the ceremony.

Manchester City's influential midfielder was unveiled as the winner of the 2024 edition at a glitzy ceremony last month, which Real Madrid boycotted due to the perceived snubbing of their striker Vinicius Junior.

The Brazilian had been the odds-on favourite to win the award, given to the world's best player for the 2023-24 season, but the full list - released on Friday - indicates that Rodri pipped him to the post by 41 votes. Third-placed Jude Bellingham, Vinicius Junior's team-mate, was 253 points behind the winner.

The prize is voted for by a field of football journalists, with one representative for each of the top 100 countries in the FIFA rankings. Each voter is asked to choose their top five players from the list of nominees, with different points totals awarded for each position, from six points for their first choice down to one point for their fifth. The player with the highest number of overall points wins.

Rodri earned 1,170 votes out of a possible 1,485.

30 players were nominated but this year's voting was essentially a three-horse race, with a 620-point gap between Rodri and the first man off the podium, fourth-placed Dani Carvajal of Real Madrid.

Los Blancos, who lifted the La Liga and Champions League trophies last season, boycotted the ceremony after rumours circulated that Rodri had beaten their star forward, despite also fielding three of the eventual top four.

Rodri's City team-mate Erling Haaland was fifth with 432 points, falling three places from 2023. Sixth-placed Kylian Mbappe - the highest-placed French player - also slipped three places down the rankings and was just behind the Norwegian on 420 points.

It was a successful night for Spain and Spanish clubs, despite Real Madrid's fury at not reaching top spot: they had four players in the top ten, with now-retired midfielder Toni Kroos ninth. There were five Spanish players in the top fifteen, with Lamine Yamal - the youngest player nominated, at 17 - eighth, Dani Olmo 13th, and Nico Williams 15th.

English players fared less well. Harry Kane was 10th, with 201 points, 718 behind England team-mate Bellingham, and Manchester City's Phil Foden 11th on 157 points. But while they featured in the top half, several team-mates were much further down the list: Bukayo Saka (21st) scored 14 points, Cole Palmer (25th) seven and Declan Rice (26th) just five.

Nobody lower than 12th place scored triple digits, with La Liga top scorer Artem Dovbyk and Champions League finalist Mats Hummels both garnering nil points from the jury.

In the women's edition, Spain and Barcelona player Aitana Bonmati doubled up on Ballon d'Or trophies having won last year's prize. She dominated the voting, finishing almost 300 points ahead of second-placed Caroline Graham Hansen, who in turn was 146 points clear of another Spain and Barcelona star, Salma Paralluelo in third. While this was another clear-cut contest, each player did at least score one point.
