Ballon d'Or 2025: Hannah Hampton shortlisted for Yachine Trophy as Alisson, Thibaut Courtois, Gianluigi Donnarumma up for men’s award

Hannah Hampton has been nominated for the prestigious women's Yachine Trophy for the best goalkeeper in the world. The Chelsea shot-stopper was key to England's success at the 2025 Euros and she also helped her club to record an unbeaten domestic campaign. Meanwhile, Alisson Becker, Thibaut Courtois and Gianluigi Donnarumma have been shortlisted for the men's award for 2025.

The Ballon d'Or has expanded this year to include both women and men for the Yachine Trophy, awarded to the standout goalkeeper.
Last year, Emiliano Martinez won the award for the second straight season - becoming the first keeper to win the Yachine Trophy twice.
The Aston Villa keeper is nominated again and there could yet be a different repeat winner, with Gianluigi Donnarumma, Alisson Becker and Thibaut Courtois all having previously won the award.
Leading the women's nominees is Hannah Hampton. The Chelsea star has the world at her feet at the moment, having wrested the starting spot in the England line-up from Mary Earps, after making her case with a series of strong performances from a dominant Chelsea team.
Chelsea won the WSL at a canter this year, and lifted the League Cup and the FA Cup to boot.
But it was Hampton’s star turn in the final of the Euros that really grabbed everyone’s imaginations, as she saved multiple penalties to help England defend their title.
Gotham FC’s Ann-Katrin Berger is nominated after some strong performances in the NWSL, with Gotham winning the CONCACAF W Champions Cup.
Meanwhile, Paris FC lifted their first major title - the Coupe de France Feminine - for nearly two decades, and they would not have done so without Chiamaka Nnadozie’s brilliance between the posts.
She managed two heroic saves in the penalty shootout as Paris took it 5-4 against PSG, her last act for Paris as the Nigerian keeper has now moved to Brighton for the 2025-26 season.
Daphne van Domselaar helped Arsenal keep a clean sheet in the Champions League final against the much-fancied Barcelona side. The Dutchwoman was also instrumental in their domestic campaign, where Arsenal finished runners-up to Chelsea in the WSL.
Spanish star Cata Coll, like Hampton, played a big role in the recent Euros. But as well as saving penalties for fun for Spain, Coll was part of a Barcelona line-up that demolished the opposition in nearly every competition last season.
They won the domestic treble, but came up just short in the Champions League.
The nominees list for the men's trophy features some familiar names, with Donnarumma, Alisson and Courtois no strangers to this category.
Donnarumma was a constant presence in PSG's Champions League campaign last season, one of three titles the all-conquering team picked up in the 2024-25 season.
An exuberant figure, the Italian pulled off some wonderous saves throughout the tournament, but was not required to work too hard in the final where PSG romped to a 5-0 win over Inter Milan.
Alisson helped Liverpool take the Premier League title, the Brazilian instrumental as Liverpool dominated on home soil to take a record-equalling 20th League title.
Courtois plies his trade for Real Madrid, who had an almost underwhelming season by their high standards. Second in the league, they suffered an early exit in the Champions League.
But Courtois was up to his old magic, pulling off incredible saves to deny many of the world's best strikers.
Lucas Chevalier is also nominated, the keeper having a very strong season for Lille. Rumours abound that he might be on his way to PSG for next season, creating an interesting fight with Donnarumma for the No. 1 spot.
Yassine Bounou rounds out the nominees, the Al Hilal keeper putting in some strong performances - especially at the recent Club World Cup, where Al Hilal pulled off a couple of shock results.
Martinez, Jan Oblak, Arsenal's David Raya, Matz Sels and Yann Sommer are also nominated.
