Alex Cairns released by Chesterfield

The 23-year-old signed a short-term contract with the Spireites in the summer but that deal has now expired and new boss Danny Wilson does not want to retain the player.

Cairns, who came through the youth ranks at Leeds, featured regularly on the substitutes bench and also turned out for the reserves but did not make a first-team appearance during his stay at the Proact Stadium.
