Mohamed Salah: Egypt manager Hossam Hassan gives verdict on Mohamed Salah's Liverpool issues - 'There will be some differences'

Egypt manager Hossam Hassan has discussed Mohamed Salah's issues with Liverpool, insisting it is natural for there to be friction between clubs and players. Salah was left out of Liverpool's squad for their 1-0 UEFA Champions League win against Inter after insisting that he had been thrown under the bus by the club following their disappointing start to the 2025/26 season.

Egypt head coach Hossam Hassan believes it is only natural for there to be disagreements between football clubs and their players in the wake of Mohamed Salah’s falling out with Liverpool.
Salah told journalists that he felt like he was being "thrown under the bus" by The Reds after being left on the bench for his side’s 3-3 draw with Leeds in the Premier League earlier this month.
The 33-year-old was subsequently left out of Liverpool’s squad for their 1-0 win at Internazionale in the UEFA Champions League, but he was back on the bench for their 2-0 win against Brighton on December 13, coming on to set up Hugo Ekitike’s second goal.
Hassan has been in contact with Salah throughout the process and believes that some time away with his national team at the Africa Cup of Nations will help the forward find his best form.
"Before I saw him, we were in constant contact on the phone," he told a press conference.
"Any football player in the world knows that at some point there will be some differences of opinion with the club's coaching staff.

"But the communication is open between me and him all the time.
"When he joined us at our training camp, he felt a very high ambition.
"This kind of situation has happened at one point when I first took this position, around a year or just shy of two years ago.
"Mohamed Salah at one stage had some issues [with his club], but when he gets to the national team he gets back on his feet because he finds himself with his national team and his team-mates here.
"Then he comes back better than before, and you will notice that, when he leaves the national team after helping us win and scoring goals, he goes back to Liverpool and performs better."
Salah looks set to be key to Egypt’s hopes of winning AFCON.
They will get their campaign underway on December 22 against Zimbabwe, and Hassan has no doubts about Salah's ability to impact the tournament.

"Salah from what I see, is going to be one of the best players in this tournament with (help from) his team-mates and the coaching staff," he added.
"Salah will continue to be an icon and one of the best players in the world. I support him in every way as do the Egyptian fans.
"Don't forget that Mohamed Salah needs to win the Africa Cup of Nations by helping himself and helping us, and we can also help him as the staff, as a team, and the fans too.
"I have confidence in Salah and in all the players.
"But I do see that Mohamed Salah in training and with his team-mates [has the enthusiasm] like a player who has just been called up to the national team for the first time."
