Primoz Roglic to miss vital race build-up ahead of La Vuelta a Espana after being hit by car - 'Not the best scenario but it's life'

Primoz Roglic has said that he was hit by a car while training and will miss both the Clasica San Sebastian and Vuelta a Burgos, although he remains hopeful of being ready to ride in La Vuelta a Espana, which starts on August 22.

The 36-year-old was planning to resume his season in the Basque Country this weekend, but the fates had other ideas.
Roglic posted on Instagram on Friday, showing a very large bruise on his leg following the incident.
"Got hit by a car few days ago," Roglic wrote. "I won't be participating in San Sebastian and in Burgos unfortunately... not the best scenario, but it's life, eh.
"Now it's all systems go towards La Vuelta, we work and hope things will turn around!"
Roglic is set to leave the Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe team at the end of the 2026 season with his big priority this year the Vuelta.
In a stellar career, he has enjoyed immense success at the race, winning it on four occasions, in 2019, 2020, 2021, and 2024.
Roglic also won the Giro d'Italia in 2023 and finished in second place in the Tour de France in 2020.
He also claimed Olympic glory in the delayed Tokyo Games of 2021, winning gold in the men's individual time trial.
The 2026 Vuelta will start with an individual time trial in Monaco on August 22. The three-week spectacular will conclude in Granada on September 13.
It is still not known whether cycling great Tadej Pogacar, who won an historic fifth Tour de France title in Paris last weekend, will compete at the Vuelta.
Race director Javier Guillen told Spanish newspaper AS that "this is the best year" for the UAE Team Emirates-XRG star to compete.

When asked whether he believed Pogacar would be at the Vuelta, Guillen said: "Hopefully. The latest information we have comes from Prince Albert. The rider would like to come.
"If Tadej Pogacar comes to the Vuelta, it's certainly to win it; he won't come any other way.
"I, as the Vuelta director, am very optimistic that he can come. All the best circumstances are in place for him to come.
"I think the Vuelta is very well positioned at this time, given its distance from the Tour."
