Jonas Vingegaard will not feature in next week’s Volta Ciclista a Catalunya in Spain due to the injuries he sustained in a crash at Paris-Nice.
The Dane appeared to injure his wrist while coming off his bike in a crash on Stage 5, a hilltop finish at La Cote-Saint-Andre.
Visma-Lease a Bike subsequently withdrew the two-time Tour de France winner from Stage 6 of the race as a precautionary measure, while they have now announced the 28-year-old will not be involved in the Volta Ciclista a Catalunya either.
The team will instead be led by Simon Yates.
In a post on social media, Visma-Lease a Bike said: "Jonas Vingegaard has not yet recovered sufficiently from his crash in Paris-Nice.
"Therefore, he will not start in the Volta Ciclista a Catalunya. We wish him a speedy recovery."
Visma-Lease a Bike have been guarded regarding the extent of Vingegaard’s injury, but insisted that the rider had not suffered a fractured wrist in the crash.
"We did some x-rays, but it doesn’t seem like anything is broken, although it is still very painful for him and he is not feeling well after the crash," head of racing Grischa Niermann told reporters.
Vingegaard’s next race will likely be the Criterium du Dauphine in June, where he will go toe-to-toe with Tadej Pogacar. He is then scheduled to race in the Tour de France the following month in a bid to reclaim his title.

Visma-Lease a Bike’s Matteo Jorgenson claimed victory at Paris-Nice for the second year in succession on Sunday. In doing so, he became only the 10th rider with consecutive titles in 'The Race to the Sun'.
When asked whether he could replicate such success at a Grand Tour, the American said: "Now it's time to set the bar higher.
"I can't say that I'm capable of winning a Grand Tour, but at least I want to try. I want to work towards that."
