Jonas Vingegaard (Visma-Lease a Bike) has revealed he suffered a concussion following his crash at Paris-Nice earlier this month, which has ultimately ruled him out of this week’s Volta Ciclista a Catalunya.
The Danish rider came off his bike during Stage 5 in France, before continuing on to the hilltop finish at La Cote-Saint-Andre.
Vingegaard did not compete in Stage 6 and will not be involved in the latest race of the season in Spain, despite returning to the saddle last week.
Speaking about the incident, he said: "After the crash I was dizzy, and after the stage, I got very nauseous and was incredibly tired, which continued for the next several days.
"I'm happy to be back on the bike, even though it took a little longer than hoped due to my concussion, which required a lot of rest.
"I'm incredibly disappointed to be out, because I actually felt like I could have kept the leader's jersey all the way to Nice.
"The fact that it also means that I have to miss the Tour of Catalonia is even more disappointing, as I had been looking forward to running the race."

Visma confirmed his omission from the team on social media, saying he "has not yet recovered sufficiently" to take part.
In terms of how the crash will impact the rest of his season, Vingegaard said: "Right now we're taking it day by day and letting the rehabilitation determine whether we need to make further changes or additions to my programme.
"I rode my bike for the first time on Thursday [March 20] and I'm still taking it very easy."
