Fabio Jakobsen ends Sam Bennett run in Turkey

The Deceuninck-QuickStep rider wriggled through the tightest of gaps behind leadout man Maximiliano Richeze before accidentally collecting a Turkish flag from a spectator as he charged towards the finish.

Cavendish (Dimension Data) was well-positioned but had to swerve around Richeze as he veered off, with the Brit having to settle for third behind Jakobsen and Bennett (Bora hansgrohe).

"Without my team-mates this win was impossible," Jakobsen said.

"This is a victory for them. OK, I do the sprint but they bring me into position. Max was my last man and he brought me into position with 200 meters to go. It was a slightly uphill sprint and even a Turkish flag couldn't stop me. I’m just happy that I won and can take home the victory."

Bennett leads the overall standings by 20 seconds courtesy of bonus time collected on the first two stages.
