TOMORROW'S STAGE

The second longest stage of the race. I think we might see a breakaway success tomorrow.

TADEJ POGACAR LEADS THREE OUT OF FOUR CLASSIFICATIONS
Seventeen for second on the stage, added to his 20 yesterday, puts him on 97 - five ahead of Jonathan Milan. The only one missing is white because at 26 he is oh so old.

EVENEPOEL: I DID WHAT I HAD TO DO
Big guys like Edoardo can do these courses very well. Also they can save more in the finals like yesterday. I knew I had a good chance but the legs still have to be there, and everything needs to go to plan. I think it was pretty good. I didn't really feel like I could go any faster so in general I'm happy. The second stage win for our team is super nice. I kind of pushed pretty steady, harder on the uphills than the down of course. I was still gaining time in the last 8km so I paced it pretty well. I'm super happy. Tadej did a very strong time trial as well. Seventeen seconds is pretty close - half a second per kilometre. He really made a step forward after the Dauphine time trial, and it's why he's the guy to beat. I did what I had to do to take as much time as possible and take a step up in GC. It's kind of the same situation as last year, after the TT, and I think it's a big step forward to the podium but a long way to go. I'm very happy with my performance and I just have to keep it up. Everyone knows what coming up next week and the week after but it's very nice to take a stage win. It's all relaxed and all focused on the podium in Paris.
Man of few words.

EVENEPOEL UP TO SECOND
By 42 seconds from Tadej Pogacar. Vingegaard falls to 4th, 1'13 down on yellow. Kevin Vauquelin is out of white but on the podium and the last rider within a minute of the race lead.

TWO FRENCHMEN IN THE TOP FIVE!
Qu'est-ce que c'est?! Bruno Armirail and Kevin Vauquelin have shown they can do it contre la montre.

REMCO EVENEPOEL WINS STAGE 5!
Mathieu van der Poel, a valiant effort from him for 18th, is the last rider to cross the line. This has been his last day in yellow of the Tour de France, you'd think.

POGACAR FINISHES IN 36'58.70
The only other rider to go under 37 minutes. He is the new maillot jaune.

KEVIN VAUQUELIN IN PROVISIONAL FOURTH PLACE
He loses white but he's up for the fight. How about that?

POGACAR THIRD FASTEST AT THE FINAL CHECK
17 seconds slower than Evenepoel. He'll be happy with that over 33km. He's heading for yellow.
16:27
VAUQUELIN CATCHES AND PASSES ENRIC MAS
That's two minutes he's made up.

REMCO STOPS THE CLOCK
He goes quicker than Affini by a massive 33 seconds. I don't think it'll be enough for yellow but it's going to be a stage win and a huge leap up in the standings. Perfection. Average speed of 54kph!

7TH PLACE FOR ROGLIC AT THE FINISH
Not terrible, all things considered, but Vauquelin is going quicker, and he's been told so on the team radio.
16:18
POGACAR LOSING 12 SECOND TO EVENEPOEL AT SECOND CHECK
But gaining thirty on Vingegaard as things stand.
16:17
VINGEGAARD LOOKS UNCOMFORTABLE
Rocking and rolling in the saddle, and it's reflected in his time at the second split, which has him 50 seconds down on the race lead.

REMCO THIRD FASTEST AT SECOND SPLIT, FIRST AT THE LAST ONE
He's taken the best part of twenty seconds between them. Will it be enough? Even if not, this has been really well paced.

LESS THAN A SECOND BETWEEN EVENEPOEL AND POGACAR
(In Remco's favour.) That's nothing. Vingegaard is a further 18 seconds back. After 8km, that's something.

POGACAR IN THE GREEN AGAINST EVENEPOEL
Before the first split we get a glimpse of how he's doing. And he's doing very well indeed. It's just an estimation, but blimey Charlie.

EVENEPOEL DRIFTING A LITTLE
He's slipped to 8.5 seconds down on Luke Plapp at the second time check, four back on Affini. That's still super strong, though.
