Pauline Ferrand-Prevot suffered a huge setback when she had to withdraw from this season's Vuelta, but her success at Paris-Roubaix combined with altitude training paid off handsomely as she won the 2025 Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift on Sunday. The 33-year-old revealed she had set herself a target of winning the Tour in the next three years, and won at her first attempt.

The 2025 Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift champion Pauline Ferrand-Prevot dedicated her "crazy" victory to her team-mates, saying "I love you so much".

Visma-Lease a bike rider Ferrand-Prevot won the last two stages of the race to claim a victory in the Grand Tour on Sunday.

Stage 9 saw her power up the final climb to Chatel to secure her triumph.

Those two wins in the Alps helped her to a winning margin of over three and a half minutes, beating FDJ–Suez rider Demi Vollering - seen by many as the pre-race favourite - who came in second.

Third place on the podium was claimed by Kasia Niewiadoma-Phinney (Canyon–SRAM zondacrypto), last year’s champion.

Ferrand-Prevot has world titles in both mountain biking and cyclo-cross, but this was the 33-year-old's first win in a major multi-stage road race, though she also won the 2025 Paris-Roubaix in the run-up to the Tour.

The win makes history, as she became the first French rider to win the relaunched Tour since it started in 2021. The last time a Frenchwoman won was Jeannie Longo in 1989.

The win was even more remarkable because Ferrand-Prevot had not raced for more than 10 weeks after an injury forced her to abandon the Vuelta, and she turned to altitude training to prepare.

Last year, she won the gold in the mountain bike XC event at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games in her home country.

Speaking on stage after her victory on Sunday, she told the crowd that she had given herself three years to win the Tour.

She said: "It's just crazy, yeah. I came back on the road after my Olympic title. I said I would try to win the Tour de France in the next three years, and here I am."

Ferrand-Prevot also gave praise to her team and the squad of riders around her, who had supported her over the nine days of racing.

She continued: "It was an amazing season with my team and with my team-mates, who worked super hard for me all week long.

"I want to say thank you to them and congrats to my entire team. I love you so much girls, and thank you for everything."
