"I've signed for one year, even though I haven't yet decided how many months I'm going to race next season," Museeuw announced on his personal website. "It's possible that I stop after the spring classics, after six months, or even at the end of my contract."
Winner this season of his third Paris-Roubaix, Museeuw had hinted he would quit after the classics next season. After the merger of his Belgian Domo team and the Italian Mapei-Quick Step, it had become an open secret that Museeuw would eventually follow his team director Patrick Lefevere to the new formation.
Under Lefevere next season, the Belgian will join Bettini, who he currently trails by only two points in the UCI World Cup standings, as well as Richard Virenque, Candel Evans, Miguel Martinez, and Lazlo Bodrogi.
Johann Museeuw turns 37 in his native Belgium on the day he rides in the Cycling World Championships in Zolder.
