MATHIEU VAN DER POEL: I SURPRISED THEM A BIT
It's hard to believe. I was really focussed on trying to get the win.; We knew Tadej was going to get the win. I felt really good at the end. The beginning was horrible, in the rain and the cold, but when we came down to the coast, I felt better and better. It's the third year in a row that we've won with the team. I knew Tadej was the strongest on the climbs - he was impressive on the Cipressa. When we went with three, cooperation was good, because it's the podium spots of course.
My finishline was on top of Poggio with Tadej, because I knew he was trying to drop me but I felt pretty strong. I hoped I could counter but he was strong enough to get me back. I knew the other two wanted to make it a long sprint - they probably thought I was going to make it as short as possible - and I surprised them a bit. When I saw the 300m sign I launched my sprint. I felt strong enough to keep it to the finishline. I think it was the right tactic.

MICHAEL MATTHEW WINS THE BATTLE FROM BEHIND
Fourth place for the Australian, who adds to his tremendous record in this race.

WHAT HAVE WE JUST WITNESSED?
That was pure watts. At the end of 300km of racing, to be able to sprint like that? Cycling, bloody hell.

MATHIEU VAN DER POEL WINS MEN'S MILANO-SANREMO 2025!
He went first. He went long. He led out, and neither Ganna nor Pogacar could get on terms. It's second for Ganna again. Third for Pogacar again.

FLAMME ROUGE: THIS IS COMING BACK TOGETHER
We're getting a three-up sprint. They look at each other. They slow. They think about how to play this. This is the podium but in what order?
15:51
2KM TO GO: ONTO THE FLAT
Ganna is closing. Seven seconds says the clock.
15:50
3KM TO GO: POGACAR GETTING A BIT NERVOUS ABOUT GANNA?
He's pushing the limits of these corners. He wants a two-up sprint at most.
15:48
4KM TO GO: WE STILL DON'T KNOW
Even in a sprint. Ganna seems to be coming back on the descent.
15:47
6KM TO GO: POGACAR CANNOT SHAKE VAN DER POEL
Even on the steeper sections. A glance over the shoulder and Van der Poel decides the best form of defense is attack. But he's not having any more luck. This is an almighty dual as they go over the top.

8KM TO GO: POGACAR HITS HIM AGAIN
Just as Ganna looks to be coming back, and this time it does begin to open up. It's still not quite enough.

9KM TO GO: POGACAR ATTACKS STRAIGHT AWAY
And Ganna loses the wheel but Van der Poel sticks to it like glue. How many times can he go?
15:41
9KM TO GO: POGGIO TIME
Through the famous right turn. If Pogacar can't bin Van der Poel here, I think it's going the way of the Dutchman. Ganna is third favorite, but will that play to his advantage?

10KM TO GO: INTERMARCHE COMMITTING TO THE CHASE
Girmay must be feeling good, but Pogacar, Ganna and Van der Poel have a tailwind. I don't think there's anything they can do behind.

15KM TO GO: IT'S OVER A MINUTE NOW
But is it over? We're in uncharted territory so how will Pogacar attack the Poggio? We've learned that he got his sub-9 Cipressa, so is it going according to plan? That Van der Poel is still there tells me not, but what could he do about that? It's now about how much they're fatiguing.
15:32
18KM TO GO: BACK ONTO THE MAIN ROAD WITH 46 SECONDS
This has been ripped to pieces, even as the peloton is swelling in numbers.
15:30
22KM TO GO: OVER THE CIPRESSA WITH A 32 SECOND LEAD
They're now taking on the technical descent on the approach to the Poggio. Even with Mads Pedersen and Trek pulling behind, it's very hard to see this coming back. Surely between these three?

23KM TO GO: GANNA MOMENTARILY DROPPED AS POGACAR KICKS AGAIN
But Van der Poel won't be distanced. Yet.
