Primoz Roglic (Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe) has abandoned the 2025 Giro d'Italia after suffering yet another crash, this time on a rainy, treacherous Stage 16.
Roglic went down in a slow-speed incident midway into the day, with this being his fourth crash of a difficult race for the Slovenian.
Speaking roadside as Roglic climbed into his team car, TNT Sports' Adam Blythe said: "He's getting in the car. That is the Giro over for him.
"A few too many crashes, one just now. Sadly for Roglic, it's game over for him.
"Last couple of days he's not been well and I've not seen him at all today, not stopping for a nature break, not stopping anywhere on the road.
"He's changing the rain bags from the car, getting some fresh, warm clothes. Just talking with his team director Patxi Vila at the minute, taking the gloves off.
Blythe added: "He just looks battered and bruised, it was a super slow crash at a roundabout with [Richard] Carapaz and he just slipped out.
"Carapaz was back on his bike super quickly. He [Roglic] has just jumped in the car now.
"I think just bumps, bruises [for Roglic], we couldn't really see any scrapes on him the last couple of days, but if you've got a big bruise on your leg or come down hard, you're going to feel it and that obviously is just that one too many for him in this Giro."
In an X post, the Giro d'Italia wrote: "[Roglic] was caught in a crash in the downhill, alongside Richard Carapaz.
"The Ecuadorian made it back to the peloton, but the Slovenian has left la Corsa Rosa."
Speaking ahead of Tuesday's stage, Roglic had said: "I don't really think it's realistic anymore to do the GC.

"I'm obviously fighting for survival, I still came to the start, I couldn't even ride a bike yesterday."
Roglic leaked time on Stage 15 to slip back in the race for the maglia rosa, declaring at the finish that he was "just happy that I finished".
And this latest setback was one too many for the Slovenian, who will now need to reassess his condition ahead of an expected tilt at the Tour de France in July.
As well as Roglic, Britain's Josh Tarling also abandoned the race after crashing heavily into a barrier at a roundabout earlier in Tuesday's stage.
