Welcome!
Good afternoon and welcome to stage one of the Giro Donne! The eight-stage race is starting today with a 4.4km individual time trial around Chianciano Terme with a course that will favour the most powerful riders among the peloton. It’s a relatively flat stage, however, the awful weather has made the roads treacherously slippery, so riders will be looking to avoid any crashes while also trying to secure the fastest time and the maglia rosa for the first stage.
At the moment it’s Annemiek van Vleuten (Movistar Team) who’s in the hot seat with a time of 5.42, but the stage has only just re-started following a thunderstorm. It’s chaos for both riders and reporters alike!
