Gent-Wevelgem is back for 2025 this Sunday, the third race in Flanders this week, following Classic Brugge–De Panne and the Belgium E3 Saxo Classic.
Hot on the heels of Milano-Sanremo, where Mathieu van der Poel (Alpecin-Deceuninck) out-sprinted Filippo Ganna (Ineos Grenadiers) and Tadej Pogacar (UAE Emirates-XRG), the peloton returns to Northern Europe for the next batch of Spring Classics.
Lorena Wiebes (SD Worx-Protime) won the women’s race in San Remo from Marianne Vos (Visma-Lease a Bike), but are all the main protagonists headed to Gent-Wevelgem or are some resting before the Tour of Flanders?
Also, will defending champion Mads Pedersen (Lidl-Trek) be on the starting line? And what of Pogacar?
Here is everything you need to know about the upcoming classic.

Who is riding Gent-Wevelgem 2025?
Last year’s winner Pedersen is on the provisional starting list, with the Danish rider having also won this race in 2020.
He might face a stiff challenge from Jasper Philipsen (Alpecin-Deceuninck), while Biniam Girmay (Intermarche-Wanty) could also be in the mix.
Pogacar is not on the start list, having revealed his mouthwatering plans to take on Paris-Roubaix instead.
There is no Tom Pidcock (Q36.5 Pro Cycling) either, with the Brit taking a break now until the hilly classics later in April.
For the women, Wiebes is back to defend her title, and she is joined by team-mate Lotte Kopecky (SD Worx).
Elisa Balsamo and Emma Norsgaard head up a strong Lidl-Trek contingent, Balsamo edged out last year in a photo finish by Wiebes.
Vos and Demi Vollering (FDJ-Suez) are not competing this year.
What is the route for Gent-Wevelgem 2025?
Despite the name, the race actually begins in Ypres and then finishes in Wevelgem. The men will race over 250.3km, taking in a few short climbs on the way, including the famous cobbled Kemmelberg.
Their route heads north through Flanders Fields, before coming back through Ypres on their way to a flat finish.
This race used to be known as one for the sprinters, but there have been several breakaway wins of late, including last season.
The women’s route is very similar, albeit over the shorter distance of 169.1km.
