How records fell in epic ODI as Shubman Gill hits glorious double century and India chase down West Indies total with 811 runs scored in match
TNT Sports on GoogleRecords tumbled in Guwahati as Shubman Gill ensured India chased down West Indies' 405 for seven with astonishing ease, reaching 406 for two in only 43.3 overs to complete an eight-wicket victory in the second ODI. TNT Sports highlights all the record-shattering numbers.

Gill led the assault with an unbeaten 223 from 133 balls, transforming what had looked like a daunting target into one of the most remarkable chases in ODI history.
The India captain's innings rewrote the record books on several fronts. His 223 not out is the highest individual score in an ODI run-chase, surpassing Glenn Maxwell's 201 not out against Afghanistan in 2023. It is also the highest individual score in a List A run-chase.
Gill's double-century arrived from only 117 balls, making it the fastest double-century in ODI history, while his 150 came from 89 deliveries, the fastest 150 by an Indian in ODIs.
His century had taken just 62 balls, the fastest ODI hundred of his career and the quickest by an India or West Indies batter in the format.
He finished with eight sixes and 26 fours, reaching his second ODI double-century in only his 69th innings. Only Rohit Sharma has previously registered more than one double-century in the format.
Gill's assault began after West Indies had produced a total of their own that was unprecedented in their ODI history. John Campbell made 101, Shai Hope 104 and Amir Jangoo 114 as the visitors reached 405 for seven, their highest ODI total.

The three centuries also made West Indies only the sixth side to produce three centurions in an ODI innings. They became the first team to lose an ODI despite having three players score hundreds.
In among all the drama, Kuldeep Yadav became only the fourth Indian spinner to reach 200 ODI wickets, joining Anil Kumble, Harbhajan Singh and Ravindra Jadeja in the exclusive club.
The landmark came as he posted figures of 2-65, taking Kuldeep to 200 wickets in his 123rd ODI innings. Only Mohammed Shami reached the mark quicker among Indian bowlers, doing so in 104 matches.
India's reply was built around a colossal opening partnership. Gill and Rohit Sharma put on 255, the second-highest opening stand for India in ODIs, before Rohit was dismissed for 101. Virat Kohli then made 29, but Ruturaj Gaikwad joined Gill to complete the chase without further alarm.

'What a way to get your 100' - Gill turns on the style to land century

"[Rohit Sharma and I] had a target in the powerplay that if we get around 75-80 runs without losing any wicket, that would be a good start," Gill told broadcasters after the game.
"We thought initially the [new] ball might do a bit... once the ball gets old, the wicket would get much better to bat on."
That plan was executed almost perfectly. India reached 92 without loss during the opening 10 overs and continued to exploit the dimensions of the Guwahati ground.
"One side [of the outfield] was very short, so we thought we're going to target that side whenever the fast bowlers came on," added Gill. "At about 25 overs, I thought if we are around 200-210 [runs], we'll be in a good space. But I think we were around 230-240 [250].

"I think after [India's] powerplay, the pressure never really was on us; it was more on them. And we didn't lose any wickets up until halfway through our innings. So, that was a great bonus for us."
The acceleration was unprecedented. India reached 300 in 29.1 overs, the fastest 300 in men's ODI history, and passed 400 after 43 overs, matching the fastest any team has reached that landmark.
Their pursuit was the second-highest successful chase in ODI history, behind South Africa's 435-run pursuit against Australia in Johannesburg in 2006. It was also only the fourth successful chase of a target above 400 in all List A cricket.
India now have nine ODI totals above 400, more than any other team, moving beyond South Africa's previous record of eight. This was also India's first time passing 400 while chasing.

‘Wonderful accomplishment’ – West Indies hit 400 for first time in ODI history

The match aggregate reached 811 runs, making it the third-highest aggregate in an ODI, behind the 872 scored by South Africa and Australia at Johannesburg in 2006 and the 825 accumulated by India and Sri Lanka at Rajkot in 2009.
Gill's innings also established a new benchmark for an ODI captain. His 223 not out is the highest individual score by a captain in men's ODIs, surpassing Virender Sehwag's 219 against West Indies in 2011.
It is India's second-highest individual ODI score, behind Rohit's extraordinary 264 against Sri Lanka in 2014, and the third-highest in men's ODI history.
Rohit's contribution carried its own milestone. He reached 12,000 ODI runs in 282 innings, making him the second-fastest player to the landmark, behind Virat Kohli.

The 255-run stand also became India's highest partnership for any wicket in an ODI chase, surpassing Rohit and Kohli's 246-run second-wicket partnership against West Indies in Guwahati in 2018. Rohit and Gill are now only the second Indian opening pair to have shared multiple 200-plus partnerships, after Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly.
For all the dominance of the chase, Gill acknowledged the pressure created by the West Indies total at the halfway stage.
"At the half innings, 400 on the board, there was a bit of pressure on us. No matter how good the wicket is, no matter how small the ground is, chasing 400 is never easy. They batted with a lot of freedom; they batted quite well," Gill continued.
"I think at one point it looked like they might get even 420-430. To be able to pull [back] the game, even if it's 25-30 runs, was a bonus for us at the back-end of the innings."

‘Magical innings’ – Campbell reaches century after ‘brilliant’ knock

West Indies' imposing score had been constructed through a series of substantial partnerships. Campbell and Hope added 110 for the second wicket from 79 balls before Hope and Jangoo produced a 182-run third-wicket stand to propel the visitors towards 400.

Campbell's century was particularly destructive, with five sixes and a remarkable 22-run over against Prasidh Krishna. The Indian bowler was among those to suffer physically during the contest, with Krishna and Naman Dhir both picking up injuries. Debutant Auqib Nabi also endured a difficult introduction, conceding 84 runs.
The result gives India an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series, but Gill suggested the final match could provide an opportunity to assess players who have yet to feature.
"Ideally, we'd want to give the players who haven't had a chance... a chance. And hopefully, we'll see what combination suits us [for the ODI World Cup in 2027]."
For West Indies, the defeat came despite producing the highest ODI total in their history and three centuries in the same innings. It also comes against the backdrop of financial pressures within the game, with players facing a 25% cut and the team having to negotiate a qualification route for next year's World Cup, according to the BBC.
For India, though, the afternoon belonged overwhelmingly to Gill. A record total, a record chase and a record-breaking individual performance combined to turn a match that appeared to belong to West Indies at the interval into one of the most extraordinary batting displays of the year.
