Australia claim ODI series win over England after rain-hit Bristol match ends with DLS, Ben Duckett hits century in vain

Australia and England entered the fifth one-day international of their series with the scores level at 2-2. England started brightly as Harry Brook and Ben Duckett starred, but England then collapsed from 202-2 to 309 all out. Australia responded aggressively with their own innings, and rain forced the premature end to the match, giving the visitors a Duckworth-Lewis-Stern victory.

Australia defeated England 3-2 in their one-day international series after winning a rain-hit decider in Bristol on Sunday.
England had been 2-0 down in the series before coming back to level, setting up a decisive fifth match in the South West.
Ben Duckett scored 107 and captain Harry Brook posted 72 as England raced to 202-2 at the halfway point of their allotted overs, before collapsing to 302.
Brook’s wicket led to a collapse as England then added a further 107 runs for eight wickets, each coming through spin bowling.
Australia started confidently with their own openers, Travis Head and Matt Short, scoring 78 from the opening seven overs.
Head was dismissed for 31, and Short 58, but while England had collapsed after finding their initial momentum, the visitors took inspiration to kick on.
Steve Smith came in to add 36, and Australia were 165-2, 49 runs off the par score on the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern method calculation, when rain forced the players off.

The Australians had faced four balls of the 21st over at that point, and while the umpires returned after 5pm to give the game a chance to be completed, their inspections resulted in the match being abandoned in Australia’s favour.
