Paris 2024 Olympic Games: Team GB's Toby Roberts, Hamish McArthur qualify for boulder and lead climbing final

Great Britain will have two climbers in the sport climbing men’s boulder and lead final. Hamish McArthur and Toby Roberts both secured their spot in the final after strong performances in the lead semi-final. McArthur recorded a lead score of 45.1 and Roberts 68.1 as they both finished in the top eight. The boulder and lead finals both take place on Friday, August 9.

Team GB’s Toby Roberts and Hamish McArthur both qualified for the final of the sport climbing men’s boulder and lead at the Paris Olympics.
Roberts posted the joint-second-best lead score of 68.1 to qualify in second place on 122.2 points.
McArthur faced a nervous wait after recording an early lead score of 45.1, but secured the final qualifying spot on 79.3 total points.
Japan's Sorato Anraku qualified in top spot with an overall score of 137.
The boulder and lead finals both take place on Friday, August 9.
“It feels incredible," Roberts told Eurosport.
"It was a really hard route so happy to put a good performance together. I could tell by the crowd reaction that it was quite a hard route and I had done quite well by the time I fell off.”
Roberts had recorded the third-best score of 54.1 in the boulder semis on Monday, while McArthur was eighth with a score of 34.2.
McArthur was one of the early climbers in the lead semi-finals and made good progress before falling with around a quarter of the route remaining.
McArthur posted a lead score of 45.1 which provisionally saw him qualifying for the final.

It was unclear whether that would be enough with most of the field still to climb.
However, a tough route saw several contenders fall early and McArthur stay towards the top of the leaderboard.

But he faced a nervous wait towards the end of the semi-final as he started to slip down the leaderboard.
Roberts overtook him with a lead score of 68.1 as he secured his spot in the final.
McArthur will join him as he managed to take the final qualifying place.
