Teofimo Lopez successfully retained his WBO world light-welterweight title on Thursday night in Las Vegas, but his victory was not without controversy as defeated opponent Jamaine Ortiz said he thought he "won the fight". A unanimous points decision handed victory to Lopez, but there were boos from the crowd about the call and Ortiz called a 117-111 scorecard "ridiculous."

Teofimo Lopez defended his WBO world light-welterweight belt in controversial fashion amid boos from the Las Vegas crowd after a unanimous points win over Jamaine Ortiz on Thursday.
Ortiz appeared to edge a tight clash between the two Americans over 12 rounds at the Michelob Ultra Arena.
But two judges scored the fight 115-113 and one 117-111, a scorecard that Ortiz subsequently described as “just ridiculous.”
Lopez responded to jeers from the crowd by saying “yeah yeah yeah, you all can boo all you want,” before adding a homophobic slur.
The 26-year-old then called out unified welterweight champion Terence Crawford for a catchweight bout.
"I'm here, I'm ready. I'm hungry, I'm younger, I'm prettier," said Lopez.
Crawford responded on X by suggesting that Lopez had lost the fight despite the judges’ decision.
“Talked all that s*** about me and lost,” Crawford wrote.
“Like I told him focus on who you [are] fighting not me. Teofimo Lopez back to the drawing board you go chump.”
Ortiz denied Lopez momentum as he circled around the ring and showed his agility, but the American was left frustrated at the end of the fight.
"I stuck to the game plan, I listened to my corner, my team. I thought I was winning," Ortiz said.
"I think I won the fight. What can I say? He couldn't hit me, I was making him miss all night. 117-111 is just ridiculous."
