Olympics Rio 2016: ‘Amateur boxing stinks’, Irishman Michael Conlan in foul-mouthed rant after loss

Ireland's Michael Conlan insisted amateur boxing “stinks from the core to the top” after he was beaten by Russia's Vladimir Nikitin in the men’s 56kg bantamweight.

Conlan unleashed the foul-mouthed rant after losing his quarter-final, meaning he missed out on a medal in Rio, with the boxer highly fancied for gold.
“They’re f****** cheats, it’s as simple as that,” Conlan began in his RTE interview.
“I’ll never box for anybody again. They’re cheating b******* they’re paying everybody.
“I don’t give a f*** I’m cursing on TV. My dream’s been shattered now. But you know what, I have a big career ahead of me.
“Amateur boxing stinks, from the core right to the top.”
Many believed Conlan was the clear winner, but the judges all handed the Russian a 29-28 victory.
Conlan's brother Jamie produced a tweet so strong it cannot be repeated here, but he claimed that medals had been paid for before the competition started, which is paraphrasing it nicely.
Irish betting company Paddy Power also weighed in, insisting they would pay out on those who bet on a Conlan gold.
Conlan showed his displeasure in the ring.
