On an eventful night of boxing, O'Shaquie Foster lost to Robson Conceicao in controversial circumstances, Shakur Stevenson retained his belt and Nate Diaz defeated Jorge Masvidal.
Foster began the evening as the WBC junior lightweight champion ahead of his clash with Conceicao in Newark, New Jersey.
Most observers expected the judges to give the nod to the incumbent when the match went the distance, but Conceicao was declared champion on a 116-112, 115-113, 112-116 split decision.
Foster was nonplussed, telling ESPN: "I thought it was a shutout. I thought it was an easy fight. I didn't get touched but with a headbutt. I don't know, man ... they stole this fight from me."
Former world champion Regis Prograis was just one of many professionals to hit out at the decision, as he posted in a video on X: "I think we just witnessed one of the biggest robberies ever. Ever, ever, ever in boxing history. [Foster] won every round. He literally won every round, and they gave it to the other dude. Like, how bro?”
Stevenson retains title
In the night’s headline event, Shakur Stevenson’s WBC lightweight title clash with Artem Harunyunyan saw the undefeated American come through largely unscathed with a win by unanimous decision.
A match-up with Gervonta “Tank” Davis, the WBA champion at 135lbs, has been suggested as a huge unification fight for later in the year.
"It's kind of hard to prove [you're the best] if you don't have a fighter trying to fight back; he's just trying to survive," said Stevenson after the fight . "I would have wanted him to try a little harder so it could be a more fun fight.
"I did everything I could to get him out of there, too. I got to cut off the ring a little bit more. ... I'm going to go back to the gym and work on cutting off the ring."
He continued: "I want to fight the best fighters in boxing," Stevenson said. "That's how you're going to get to see the best version of me, when you put me in the ring with someone else that wants to fight back and compete."
Zepeda knocks out Cabrera
In California, there was more lightweight action as the undefeated Giovanni Cabrera came up against William Zepeda.
It was Zepeda who emerged victorious, taking his second victory of the year after riding a difficult opening to the contest as Cabrera started brightly.
In the third round, Zepeda unleashed a flurry of blows and when he found an opening, delivered a knockout liver shot that left his rival unable to recover.

Diaz wins Masvidal rematch in the ring
Nate Diaz continued his crossover into the world of boxing after moving on from the UFC, when he took on Jorge Masvidal in the ring.
Masvidal and Diaz fought under the UFC banner in 2019, with the former winning the BMF championship fight.
The rematch went Diaz’s way on the cards, and represents a return to winning ways for the veteran having previously lost to Jake Paul.

Fisher stops Babic
Johnny Fisher stayed unbeaten when he met Alen Babic in London earlier on Saturday.
The two heavyweights were expected to put on an explosive fight given their tendency to go on the front foot.
While fans got a knockout ending, it was perhaps over a little sooner than they had hoped for.
Fisher hit the Croatian with a few right-handers before a heavy blow from his left sent Babic to the canvas, and while he recovered to his feet he was demonstrably unsteady.
The referee continued the count before waving off the fight after just 36 seconds.
