Andy Ruiz Jr. is ready to make waves in the heavyweight division again as he checked out the heavyweight roster at the 'Day of Reckoning' card in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Andy Ruiz Jr. is targeting his return to heavyweight boxing in 2024 after checking out the competition at the ‘Day of Reckoning'.
The 34-year-old was in good spirits as he revealed his aim to make a comeback next year after recovering from shoulder surgery.
“I feel really good, and it's amazing to be back in Saudi Arabia; it's where I need to be. In 2024, we're coming back,” he exclusively told TNT Sports.
“I had surgery on my right shoulder, so I already had two months preparing and recovering. I need two more months and I'll be ready to go next year.
“I need to check out all the opponents and need to get ready. In 2024 is when it's going to go down.”
Ruiz has not fought since a win by unanimous decision against Luis Ortiz in September 2022, but that long absence from the ring looks set to end soon.
The highlight of his career to date was a sensational seventh-round knockout win over Anthony Joshua to take the WBA (Super), IBF, WBO, and IBO titles in June 2019.
Joshua would gain his revenge on Ruiz in the rematch six months later after losing via a unanimous decision.
