In the final run of the fourth round, German I pilot Prokoff and brakewoman Schneiderheinze were unable to beat Germany II, finishing in a time of 51.28 seconds for a combined time of 3:24.82.
Erdmann and Bader clocked 51.20 seconds for 3:24.81 overall in the penultimate final run.
Jean Racine and Vonnetta Flowers finished in bronze medal position in a time of 3:25.31.
