Schempp, who won Thursday’s sprint event, took advantage of the perfect windless conditions in Pokljuka to shoot 20 out of 20 targets and surge clear of the overall World Cup leader.
Fourcade made a crucial mistake on his final shooting round, missing one target to finish 16.6 seconds behind the German’s time of 30:46.5, while Russia’s Anton Shipulin completed the podium in third position a further 6.8 seconds back.
The result brings Schempp closer to Fourcade at the top of the overall World Cup standings; with the Frenchman still leading on 348 points, while Ole Einar Bjoerndalen and Schempp are on 289 and 288 respectively.
