The French athlete took victory in 20:09.7 as Makarainen challenged for the win, but a single standing penalty pushed her back into second place, 11.4 seconds behind Dorin Habert.
Gabriela Koukalova of the Czech Republic completed the podium line-up, finishing 19.9 seconds back despite matching Dorin Habert at the shooting range.
Having shot perfectly in prone, Dorin Habert stumbled before her last shot in standing, but still left the range with all five targets closed, and thanks to her phenomenal speed on the snow, was able to ski away with the victory.
"This year the preparation was good. I will try to keep up all the season, but it is simply a very long season. My main goal is the Olympics in Pyeonchang next year," she said.
"I think it will be a very good fight [on Sunday]. I will try to be focused on my race."
