The trade, that happened just hours before the deadline, involved three teams and sent Chucky Atkins and Lindsey Hunter to Boston while Bob Sura, Zeljko Rebraca and Chris Mills headed to Atlanta. Detroit also landed Mike James and parted with two first-round picks.
There were also games played on Thursday night and MVP contender Kevin Garnett displayed a strong performance.
The Big Ticket scored 22 points and hauled down 24 rebounds as the Minnesota Timberwolves downed the Sacramento Kings 92-75 in a showdown between two of the top Western Conference teams in Minneapolis.
SamCassell added 18 points for the Timberwolves ( 39-15), who moved into a tie for the best record in the West with Sacramento following the victory. The Kings are 38-14, but were badly out-rebounded -- 60-34 -- while scoring a season-low in points in a surprisingly defensive struggle.
Minnesota had a much easier time of it than in previous games against the Kings. The last four games between the two rivals all went into overtime, an NBA record. The Kings were missing Brad Miller, out with a sprained foot, and Chris Webber, who has not played this season.
Webber is eligible to finally return after he finishes serving an eight-game suspension. Peja Stojakovic led the Kings with 15 points but Sacramento could generate little offense despite entering the contest with an average of 105 points scored per game this season.
LatrellSprewell added 13 points, seven rebounds and five assists in a solid performance for the T-Wolves, who have won 11 of their last 13 games against the Kings at the Target Center.
AllenIverson scored 40 points and had 11 assists as the Philadelphia 76ers beat the Seattle SuperSonics 112-101. Iverson shot 10-for-24 from the field and went 17-for-21 from the line, one game after being benched by coach Chris Ford against Denver.
GlennRobinson added 26 points for the Sixers, who led by 10 points at the half. Kenny Thomas chipped in with eight points and nine rebounds. Ray Allen led Seattle with 31 points and 11 rebounds.
In Los Angeles, Elton Brand had a season high 39 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Clippers to a 102-100 win over the Boston Celtics. Corey Maggette added 15 points and 10 rebounds for the Clippers. Ricky Davis led Boston with 23 points, while Jiri Welsch added 20.
