The Detroit Pistons coach Monty Williams was left seething after “an abomination” of a missed call in their defeat to the New York Knicks. The Knicks guard Donte DiVincenzo crashed into Detroit forward Ausar Thompson in a chaotic conclusion before Josh Hart stole the decisive basket with 2.8 seconds left. The New York Knicks grabbed a controversial 113-111 victory against the Detroit Pistons following a decision that Pistons coach Monty Williams labelled the “absolute worst call of the season".
Williams and the Pistons felt that there was a missed call with 8.5 seconds on the clock when the Knicks guard Donte DiVincenzo crashed into Detroit forward Ausar Thompson, which ultimately denied the Pistons the chance to snatch a result at the death.
"The absolute worst call of the season," Williams insisted after the game. "No call, and enough's enough. We've done it the right way.
"We've called the league. We've sent in clips. We're sick of hearing the same stuff over and over again.
"We had a chance to win the game, and a guy dove into Ausur's legs and there was a no-call. That's an abomination. You cannot miss that in an NBA game. Period.
"I'm tired of talking about it. I'm tired of my guys asking, 'What more can we do, Coach?' That situation is Exhibit A to what we've been dealing with all season long, and enough's enough.”
Williams, clearly outraged by the decision, added: "You cannot dive into a guy's legs in a big-time game like that and there be a no-call. It's ridiculous, and we're tired of it.
"We just want a fair game called. Period. I've got nothing else to say. We want a fair game, and that was not fair."
Josh Hart scored the decisive basket 2.8 seconds from the buzzer following Jalen Brunson's missed three-pointer, which sparked a chaotic ending to the game which included three turnovers and the controversial call.
It was the Piston's sixth-consecutive loss, while the Knicks improved their record in the Eastern Conference after bouncing back from defeat to the Boston Celtics.
“We won. This is the NBA, man. We don’t care how we win. We don’t care how ugly it is,” the Knicks guard Hart said.
After the Knicks were on the end of an officiating mistake in a loss at the Houston Rockets, Hart added: "I've been a part of some crazy stuff that's happened playing basketball. So, whether there are basketball gods or not, you know what I mean, crazy things happen in an 82-game season."
Elsewhere, the Toronto Raptors finally sealed a three-game win streak with a 130-122 victory over the Indiana Pacers, while the Brooklyn Nets inflicted a heavy 111-86 defeat on the Memphis Grizzlies.
In the only other game, the Miami Heat beat the Sacramento Kings 121-110 for their fourth-straight win.
