"This is going to set him back quite a way," Braves manager Bobby Cox told MLB.com after Hampton strained his left side during spring training at Lake Buena Vista, Florida on Wednesday.
Hampton, a left-hander, has not pitched in a game since having reconstructive elbow surgery 17 months ago.
"He was just getting his arm strength completely back to normal," Cox said. "Now he's not going to be able to throw at all."
