June 29 (Reuters) - The Baltimore Orioles honored the victims of the Capital Gazette newspaper before and during their game against the Los Angeles Angels on Friday.
Five employees of the local newspaper were shot and killed on Thursday at its headquarters in nearby Annapolis, Maryland.
A copy of the Capital newspaper, which detailed the shooting, was placed at the newspaper's Camden Yards press box seat along with five lilies.
The team also held a moment of silence for the victims prior to the contest.
One of the victims was a longtime sportswriter who covered the Orioles.
"We are devastated by this tragic loss of life, as we extend our heartfelt support to the many family members, colleagues and friends who are grieving this unimaginable loss," the Orioles public announcer said. (Writing by Jahmal Corner in Los Angeles Editing by Amlan Chakraborty)
