Canada stormed to a surprise victory in the men’s 4x100m relay final to take gold as Team GB secured bronze, and the USA missed out on a medal after more changeover drama.
The Canadian quartet of Aaron Brown, Jerome Blake, Brendon Rodney and Andre De Grasse triumphed from lane 9 to finish in 37.50 seconds, ahead of South Africa who claimed silver.
But after missing out on the final at Tokyo 2020, the USA suffered more heartbreak in Paris as they were disqualified following a shocking first changeover.
Team GB had also been cursing their luck after a clumsy baton change in the women's 4x100m relay final earlier on Friday.
Favourites to reign supreme, the USA made a mess of things at the first change. The opening handover between Kenny Bednarek and Christian Coleman was a disaster, with the former setting off too early.
Team USA - missing 100m winner Noah Lyles after his positive Covid-19 test - managed to overtake China but were ultimately disqualified for passing the baton outside the zone.
Six-time Olympic medallist De Grasse led Canada to success, pipping South Africa's Akani Simbine and Team GB's Zharnel Hughes to victory.
