Matthew Hudson-Smith made a statement performance with victory in the 400m at the Bislett Games Diamond League event in Norway.
Hudson-Smith produced the second-fastest time in the world this year, breaking his own European record in the process, when taking the one-lap event.
The Brit went out in blistering fashion, burning off his rivals and holding on down the home straight to stop the clock in a time of 44.07 - with 2012 Olympic gold medallist Kirani James a distant second.
Hudson-Smith said: “I knew coming into this I was in good shape, the plan was to execute and get ready.
“I did exactly that. My coach said to judge it right and finish strong for 200m. I did exactly that.
“It’s now getting ready for the Europeans and the big one, which is the Olympics.”
Hudson-Smith is knocking on the door of a sub-44 second time. He has figures in mind, but is focused on medals.
"We have a plan," Hudson-Smith told Athletics Weekly. "We know what we are capable of, but I am not going to put a time out there.
"The aim is to get the gold and the medals. There are other people trying to get those medals, but as long as I am healthy I am in that hunt."
The home crowd at the Bislett Games were left stunned, as Karsten Warholm was run down in the final strides by Alison Dos Santos in the 400m hurdles.
Warholm went out quickly and looked set to hold on, but the Norwegian hit the final hurdle to check his momentum and Dos Santos pounced to win in a time of 46.63.
The home fans did have something to cheer, as Jakob Ingebrigtsen closed out the night with victory in the 1500m.
Ingebrigtsen suffered defeat to Josh Kerr a week ago, but bounced back in Oslo.
Taking the lead with 500m to run, Ingebrigtsen poured it on on the final lap.
Timothy Cheruiyot gave chase and was closing all the way down the straight, but Ingebrigtsen dived over the line to edge the verdict in a time of 3:29.74.
Hagos Gebrhiwet produced an Ethiopian national record of 12:36.73 to win the 5000m.
Daryll Neita took third in the women’s 200m, with Brittany Brown producing a blistering finish from lane eight to take the win in a time of 22.32.
