Schwarthoff retires

German 110 metres hurdle runner Florian Schwarthoff, the Olympic silver medallist at the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta, has decided to put an end to his Athletics career, at 34 years of age, and pursue a career in architecture.

German 110 metres hurdle runner Florian Schwarthoff, the Olympic silver medallist at the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta, has decided to put an end to his Athletics career, at 34 years of age, and pursue a career in architecture.
"I made the best of my sporting potential and now I'm ready to begin a new phase of my life," Schwarhkoff told the French news agency AFP on Tuesday. "I am overjoyed to be able to pursue my dream job."
The towering Dortmund native, who stands 2.01 metres tall, missed a bronze medal at the 2002 European Championships in Munich by 0.05 seconds. He was runner up to world record-holder Colin Jackson at the 1994 European Championships in Helsinki.
Schwarhkoff is Germany's national record-holder with a personal best time of 13.05 seconds.
