Shiffrin stuns in 38th career World Cup win

The American already held a lead of almost 1.5 seconds after the first run, and extended that advantage to beat Switzerland's Wendy Holdener into second place.

Frida Hansdotter of Sweden put on a brilliant second run to move up into third place.

Shiffrin, who won her maiden overall World Cup title last season, tops the standings with 1081 points and is also in the driving seat in the slalom on 580 points with the February 9-25 Games in South Korea's Pyeongchang imminent.

Heavy snowfall on a soft course in the second leg, when the top 30 skiers start in reverse order, did not deter the American as she performed brilliantly to secure the win.

"I'm really happy with that. The second run was much closer, but in the first I was really aggressive – certainly a lot more than others," she said afterwards.

"I had a really good run so I'm happy. I take a lot of inspiration from other sports and Team USA are doing really well right now, so it's very inspiring for me to go and cheer on my teammates and then put in some good performances myself."
