Mikaela Shiffrin says she is facing at least a "few weeks" out after suffering a puncture wound in her abdomen and severe muscle trauma in her pursuit of a 100th World Cup win.
She left the slope on a rescue sledge and was taken to a medical clinic before being treated in hospital.
Shiffrin, 29, has said it will take "a few weeks minimum" for her to be able to "take on much of any force".
"I literally have a puncture wound and some pretty significant muscular trauma around my whole right oblique area," she said on social media about her injury.
"We're starting the process to be on the mend and I hope to get back to being able to ski soon-ish."
Shiffrin became the all-time leader with World Cup wins in March when she passed Ingemar Stenmark's mark of 86.
She won her 99th World Cup event on November 23.
Speaking about her injury, she told NBC Sports: "I have a stab wound, basically.
"I was purposely trying to run the most aggressive line I could. We’re just not totally sure how I got punctured."
She added that she felt "quite lucky" after rewatching the video of the crash, but said: "Right now I’m pretty limited in doing anything."
