Lindsey Vonn 'OK' but 'a little banged up' after hitting gate during super-G run at Alpine Ski World Championships

Lindsey Vonn's super-G run came to a premature end at the 2025 Alpine Ski World Championships after she hit a gate with her shoulder, which caused her to briefly lose feeling in her arm. She had also been suffering from a flu-like illness ahead of the event. Vonn made a surprise return to competitive skiing at the age of 40 in December last year following a six-year hiatus.

Lindsey Vonn says she is "OK" but "a little banged up" after hitting a gate during her super-G run at the Alpine Ski World Championships on Thursday.
Early in her run, Vonn’s shoulder collided with a gate which put a premature end to her medal charge.
The 40-year-old made a shock return to competitive skiing after a six-year hiatus in December 2024, now with a new titanium partial knee replacement.
Vonn said: "I hit a nerve somehow when I hit the gate, and I lost feeling in my arm, but it’s coming back slowly.
"I’m a little banged up. Just was a little too aggressive to the gate."

Vonn also told The Associated Press she had also been suffering from illness ahead of the super-G, saying: "I definitely have a cold or the flu or something."
When asked whether she would participate in the final downhill training run on Friday, she replied: "I’m going to see how my shoulder feels and my energy levels.
"But I have to test some more material, so I’ll probably start tomorrow."
Although her run came to an early halt, Vonn felt she had started well and praised the track.
"I skied the top well I thought," she said.
"I like it [the track], it’s pretty fun, it’s not super challenging from the steepness but the terrain makes it challenging.
"I had a great time, I just need to figure my equipment out and hopefully that makes me faster."
Despite her injury, she praised fellow American Lauren Macuga, who tied Norwegian Kajsa Vickhoff Lie for third, saying: "I’m really excited for Lauren, she skied amazing, I’m really proud of her."
Austrian Stephanie Venier took the super-G victory, with Italian Federica Brignone in second.
