Jude Bellingham: Real Madrid star mocks Cristian Romero in heated exchange during derby defeat at Atletico - ‘You talk a lot with Messi’

Details of a heated argument between Real Madrid’s Jude Bellingham and Atletico Madrid defender Cristian Romero have been revealed, with the Englishman calling his opponent a ”coward" before being dubbed a "cry baby" in return.

The pair were at the centre of one of the most controversial moments of an eventful Madrid derby, when Romero was shown a yellow card for a challenge on Bellingham in the first half after a review on the pitchside monitor.

But footage has since emerged of Romero and Bellingham exchanging sharp words that featured references to an ill-tempered FIFA World Cup semi-final between Argentina and England in the summer.

According to the show "El Dia Despues", the war of words erupted when Romero complained to Real defender Dean Huijsen: ”It’s impossible against you. They call everything [fouls].”

”Cuti, you know,” Bellingham replied, before he was told: ”Stop crying. Shut your mouth.”

Bellingham said: ”F*** you. You’re a coward, you’re a coward.”

”Cry, keep crying,” Romero replied.

Bellingham then replied back and said: ”You talk a lot when you are with [Lionel] Messi but nothing here. You talk a lot with Messi."

Romero, who joined Atleti from Tottenham Hotspur, finished the exchange by calling the England star a ”cry baby.”

Hosts Atleti went on to win the game 2-1 after Huijsen was dismissed in the second half for Real, with Alejandro Grimaldo and Jonathan David scoring before Antonio Rudiger pulled one back late on.

Real Madrid head coach Jose Mourinho was so furious that Romero was not shown red for his tackle that he brought a print-out featuring a still image of the challenge, and another from Lee Kang-in on Fede Valverde, into the post-match press conference.

"We can skip the press conference because the story of the match is right here," Mourinho said.

"Those were two clear red cards. Given the difficulties we faced afterwards playing 11 against 10, we can only imagine what 50 minutes of 11 against nine would have been like.

"So I'll just have to limit myself to hugging my players, who gave it their all and played a [good] first half, showed great class and character, setting us up perfectly to win the second half."

Atleti responded on Monday by mocking their rivals on social media with a video of a printer printing out a picture of Mourinho holding the print-outs with the caption: ”Stop referee harassment now.”
